Urban Geography

Workshop Summary:

As urban geographers we are primarily concerned with the ways in which cities and towns are constructed, governed and experienced. This immersion will be an in-depth look at how city structure works (or doesn’t) for its constituents. We will examine urbanization, city infrastructure, urban space, gentrification, and the impacts on homelessness. Activities will include going to where homeless individuals and families congregate in the vicinity of St. Francis Center and the Curtis Park Neighborhood. We will use observation, interaction and writing as tools for our analysis.

Essential Question:

  • What is the urban geography of Denver and how has it impacted the plight of those living in poverty and the homeless?
