This workshop consists of a variety of activities to help participants consider the many factors that shape us as individuals and our role in our communities, with the ultimate goal of breaking down stereotypes and building relationships by first asking ourselves “who am I?”
We will look at society both systemically and structurally, and explore how some groups benefit or are marginalized by systems in our society. The activities allow participants to learn about the circumstances surrounding poverty, resulting in increased empathy, while understanding their own place within those systems and to understand privilege and other factors related to identity.
- How does understanding my own identity help me to grow my empathy for those who are different than me?
- How does considering someone else’s situation impact my perception of individual differences and my overall understanding of the world?
